M!A Sick || Open
It started off just as allergies. The weather changed, the pollen picked up, and Ellie was sniffling and sneezing and had a minor cough — just like several other people, or any other normal human being. It was normal. She’d power through it — or so she convinced herself she would.
Two days into it is when the aches and the chills came, and her cough steadily grew worse. It was difficult to swallow; more often than not she was wiping her nose on her sleeve and trying to make the wheezing, hollow sound in her chest go away. The last thing she needed was to get sick.
On the third morning she could hardly move out of bed. Her head hurt, her chest hurt, and the cough shook her entire body. “Not moving…” She muttered painfully, bringing her forearm up to cover her eyes as she rolled over and shivered under the blankets.
{ Joel could only stand by and watch as Ellie decreased into a sniffling mess. At first he didn’t think anything of it, she got allergies every so often but as soon as it graded to a debilitating cold… It became more than that. She helped Joel in his darkest time, when he couldn’t move, when he felt like he was going to die… She brought him back. And Joel would do the same for her. He hunted for food, bringing her hot rabbit rabbit soup, hot chicken soup, and anything he could find, really. He needed to break her fever, he needed to keep her energy up.
Her cold was moving fast on her, and he hoped it wouldn’t get any worse.
“Ellie?” Joel murmured as she stirred awake. He moved over to her, tucking the covers even closer to her. “How you feelin’, kiddo?”
She didn’t need to answer. Joel could see it on her face. If they were in the quarantine zone or if it was before the infection Joel would’ve given her some cold medicine, vitamins and some hot tea. But he couldn’t now, he was improvising with what they had now. Which wasn’t much.
“You’ll be okay, baby girl,” He took her hand and squeezed it lightly, her skin hot as fire. “It’ll be okay, things will get better soon…”
